Darragh Leahy - App Design

Image
I looked into different emergency apps and looked at the design of them. From what I've gathered so far, these scribbles would be an effective way to design the app. The layout is nice and clean, and I've tried to keep it fairly simplistic so that it's easy to understand and navigate. The main page will have the map. On this map you will be able to see where all the warnings are based and get details off them. From the main page, there will be access to a drop down menu at the corner. Here is where you will find different links/tabs bringing you elsewhere. There could be an option of 'my warnings' which would go into detail about the information gathered from the emergencies gathered from your radius. The radius can be personalised in the settings, which is also in this drop down menu.

Here are some design ideas I worked on when deciding on how the Apps interface should be detailed. There are some choices that still need to be made but overall design could be taken from here.

Barry Walsh - Ways to Rembember Important Information - App feature

Image
Ways to rembember important information When you open the app there is a section with simple and easy to remember acronyms to help users remember important information about the app. These acronyms will be used to remember topics such as how to prevent catching the virus, how to avoid spreading the virus if you have it, what are the symptoms of the virus etc. Fo example SAD could stand for: S top shakinghands or hugging when saying hello or greting people A void touching eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands D istance yourself at least 6 feet away from other people For people who are illiterate or have dyslexia there will be an images only section of instructions on the same topics mentioned above. These images will be very clear and obvious on what they represent and will not need further explaining of what they mean. Example found online:

Donna Louise - Research

Research of apps with a focus on those with disability friendly functionality. 1. Voice Dream Reader "Voice Dream Reader is the app that allows you to read with your ears. The voice-based mobile app is an innovation for those with physical and learning challenges, as well as those without." If the app included a similar type of voice reader that is built in then people with sight impairments and learning difficulties could also get the emergency alerts.  ( https://www.uksmobility.co.uk/blog/2015/10/45-powerful-mobile-apps-for-those-with-disabilities/ ) 2. Avaz "This app enables children with autism and other disorders to “speak” using pictures - in a variety of situations."  This being included in the app would make it easier for non verbal people such as c hildren with autism spectrum disorders, Downs syndrome, Angelman's Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, and other speech disabilities to communicate with others around them that there is an emergency. Non verbal autisti...

Barry Walsh - How communicate alerts

How Communicate Alerts If have bad eye-sight a version of the app appears showing font and images at a bigger size which can switched in the settings. Text to speech setting for blind people to automatically say the words on the screen to the blind person. Use of vibrations and flashing lights for alerts for deaf people to help identify and distinguish the type of alert Certain colour / certain amount of times phone vibrates for certain alert types. Alerts are customisable. You choose which colour or how many times vibrate for which alert.

Darragh Leahy - App Research + Ideas

Image
Taking inspiration from the app shown below, our app could include features such as custom alert sounds, which allows the user to select/upload their own sound to be used as an alert from the app.  Another setting would be the option to turn off certain alerts. The app won't just be for one purpose or one alert. For example, using the COVID-19 case that going on currently, we could have alerts for new cases around your area, or new cases around the country, giving daily updates. There could also be a feature which reminds the user to keep on top of hygiene, and with this app, any of these features can be turned off.  Finally, there would be the radius setting. If our app alerts with every new case of COVID-19, then we will also have a radius setting, which allows the user to input their own radius, and then only receive notifications within their radius.

Donna Louise - Notes from Phil - Meeting 1 - 23.03.2020

aims are the same as proposal Things we need to achieve are objectives instead of aims. aim = solution to the problem no personage hard facts not convo form provide user feedback of a personalised nature rephrase - "team management" web application rephrase Make the last 5 all 1 make the purpose for reflections clear Make team management a main category and then have subcategories Remove other objectives - makes it look like we haven't thought things through. more content on log Start putting scribbles up. include pictures.

Donna Louise's to-do list

Donna Louise To-do list:: Concept of app/website:  Decide what we need on the app/website. What is the most important information the public will need. Decide how we will communicate the alerts with deaf, blind, and other people with disabilities. Maybe have a personalised feature where a person can enter whether they have a physical disability so they may get alerts sooner than those who do not have physical abilities so they can get home faster/away from the disaster sooner? Personalise features to the customer: As above, people with disabilities. Also, personalise the information to the location of the person using the app. For example, alerts for those in Argentina would be different to those in Japan. Discuss and brainstorm functionality: Make a list of features and example content that can be included in the app. Perhaps an example list of content. Design a prototype version of what the app will look like and how the features will look. Timetable: Create a cohesive timetable ...

Barry Walsh - Research Similar Apps

Image
Research Similar Apps  Siren GPS SirenGPS integrates community notifications, reporting and emergency calling. Pros The Siren GPS app features a red “panic button” that you can press for instant 911 assistance, making sure to send dispatchers your exact coordinates with or without a strong wireless connection. Cons An important caveat to consider with this app is that it won’t be able to share your location or profile information with first responders if your community is not part of the Siren 911 network, so be sure to check for local availability. The offline Survival Manual It is basically a field manual with all kinds of information. That includes how to make shelter, what kinds of plants to avoid, how to make fire, how to prepare food, and even basic medicine.  Pros One very nice feature is that the entire manual is downloaded to your device, so no network access is needed to use the data in the app.  One of the first topics addressed is power, so that you can keep ...

Darragh Leahy - Tasks

Darragh Leahy I will be in charge of the concept of the app and how the app will operate, and I will also be personalising the features of the app for the customer.

Donna Louise - Stuff to Get Done

Donna-Louise What we need to have done in order to get the app/website off the ground.  1. Concept of app/website:  Decide what we need on the app/website. Donna Louise - Breakdown of Separate Parts of Proposal

Donna-Louise Our Proposal: We have to make a website/app for emergency or warning announcements.  Suggest actions that needs to be taken in such a scenario and the information needs to be personalised.  Need to research similar apps.  Need to show the functionality of the website/app.  Need to test the app and get feedback on it.  Need to work as a team make a report, timetable, blog, organise meetings and decide what each person has to do. App or Website? App -  easier to access, can carry it with you, make it work through signal on your phone and not just through a WIFI signal as then the alerts will reach you regardless of WIFI or not. Make it like this so in the case of a severe emergency (massive outbreak, country lockdown, deaths near you, newly diagnosed cases closest you, etc.) you can access the information immediately.  Suggested Actions: What will be the safety plan for our clients? How do we personalise it to fit their needs? Can we create ...

Need to work as a team make a report, timetable, blog, organise meetings and decide what each person has to do.

Donna Louise - Idea

Donna-Louise - The app could use colours to specify the severity of the covid-19 cases near you. E.g White - all clear Blue - unconfirmed/pending further analysis Yellow - confirmed but isolated Orange - confirmed but not isolated Red - multiple new cases confirmed and not isolated. Black - lockdown, do not leave your house.

Darragh Leahy - Idea

Darragh Leahy - An alert app which alerts every so often to keep on top of hygiene.

Idea

11th March - Idea One of the ideas we were thinking of doing for the app was the create a sort of alert system app where if you were out in public. The app, being keyed into your location, would alert you of any cases found within a certain mile radius so you can avoid it. It would also give you news updates on the severity of the virus and would have a mp showing the infected areas.
